Third Podium Feeling Champion for Vinales

After three unsatisfactory first races, Maverick Vinales finally took the podium in the Spanish MotoGP. For him, third place at Jerez feels like a champion.

Starting the race from fifth position, Vinales managed to finish at the last podium in the Spanish MotoGP on Sunday (5/5/2019) night WIB. This is his first podium since he last won in Australia in the 2018 season.

The third finish means a lot for the Spanish rider after undergoing a heavy start to the season and never getting the desired motorbike. In the first three races of the season, Vinales finished seventh in a row, failed to finish, and finished 11th.

"Being on the podium feels like a victory for me," Vinales was quoted as saying on the official Yamahamotogp website.

"I saw Dovi and Petrucci behind me, they were together, so I thought 'wow, Dovi will win, this will be a difficult race. So I just tried to do a good round and race as well as I can.'

"Honestly, it's a difficult race, because my tires are a little left. I don't know if I will be able to eat more laps," Vinales continued.

Riding the podium is also a positive indication of the progress made by Yamaha motorcycles. Vinales does not want to be swept up quickly, because his target is consistent in top competition.

"The important thing is to be on the podium consistently. If we can give the best, I think I will be able to be in the top position. There is no time to relax," he continued.
